MilMoneyCon25 and the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts® (IDFA®) Annual Conferences

Why I Attend Divorce and Military Financial Conferences Every Year

I recently packed my bags and traveled to two important conferences that shape the way I serve clients going through divorce – especially military families.

The first was  the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts® (IDFA®) Annual Conference, a yearly gathering of Certified Divorce Financial Analysts® (CDFA®) from across the country. It’s more than just a way to earn continuing education credits (though we do need 30 hours every two years). It’s a chance to go deep on financial strategies that directly affect divorcing couples –  things like updated tax laws, asset division techniques, and current case studies that help us better navigate the complex world of divorce finance. But equally valuable was the opportunity to connect with other CDFA® professionals – people who, like me, are committed to ethical, informed, and client-centered service. Whether it’s discussing new spousal support trends or learning how to model post-divorce cash flows more effectively, the insight I gain here always improves the guidance I provide to clients. The second event I attended was MilMoneyCon25 (the event for financial professionals united by military service), held this year in San Antonio. As a retired military officer, this one is especially meaningful to me.

MilMoneyCon brings together financial professionals from across the country who specialize in helping military members and their families. Military divorces have unique challenges –  from dividing military pensions to navigating the interplay between VA disability, retirement pay, and healthcare benefits. I had the honor of speaking at  MilMoneyCon24 last year about many of these very issues.

I was able to reconnect with others working in this niche and hear from organizations like Veterans Affairs and other governmental agencies. Their insights help ensure I’m not just current but truly equipped to advocate for military families as they navigate the divorce process. Both of these conferences remind me why I do what I do. They sharpen my skills, keep me compliant with my credentials, and connect me with others who share the same commitment to helping people make sound financial decisions during a deeply emotional time. And for my clients –  whether they’re military families or civilian couples –  these trips ensure I stay ready to help them move forward with clarity, confidence, and a plan.
